Moving Forward
On today’s Podcast, we’ll be covering “Moving Forward” – so stay tuned.
Welcome to Warehouse Safety Tips!
If you’re a seasoned Podcast Listener – this podcast is going to be different from most you listen to. It’s based around exactly what the name implies – Warehouse Safety Tips. And since the people in that industry are busy – we know time is money, so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible.
And now that all that is out of the way – let’s get to the Podcast!
In some of the previous Podcasts – you’ve heard us mention a statement and/or thought process, that in our humble opinion is toxic to a Kaizen Environment.
Before covering that statement – we should probably define what Kaizen is as well (Just in case you’re unaware of it.).
The word Kaizen comes from the words “Kai” (Which means change) and “Zen” (Which means to make good/better). Put them together – and you have the principle of constant improvement and/or a change for the better.
That toxic statement to a Kaizen Environment is, “That’s the way we’ve always done it.”
Just for the record – that statement can also carry positive results. If your facility has a policy that the customer is ALWAYS right no matter what – that’s not necessarily a bad thing to discontinue.
Where that statement becomes toxic, is when it halts improvement and/or moving forward.
Before the COVID Pandemic – Online Meetings, cancellations of in-person sales calls and events, Touchless Deliveries, strictly enforced use of PPE, and overall Social Distancing/Health would probably never have been implemented. Some of those things aren’t practices you necessarily want to have – but others have shown us costs that can be greatly eliminated and ways of doing things that are much safer. But none of them would have been uncovered had a “That’s the way we’ve always done it.” system been followed.
Sometimes change involves moving forward AND taking steps backward.
Avoiding staying in one place and making “Kaizen” your thought process will always be better than saying, “That’s the way we’ve always done it.”
Before moving on – here’s a word from one of our sponsors.
