Greetings, safety enthusiasts! Welcome back to the Mighty Line Minute, where we jump into the
latest and innovations from the world of safety. We've just returned from a thrilling and
sold-out American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Conference and Expo in Denver,
Colorado. As you might have heard, our trip back to the Greater Cleveland area was marked by
an intense power outage caused by four tornadoes and a staggering three-mile-wide macro burst traveling at over 100 miles per hour. It’s a vivid reminder of the Scout adage we shared in an earlier podcast: “Be Prepared!”
Now, let’s delve into some of the standout safety innovations from the expo that have us buzzing
with excitement:
The Mighty Line team showcased their groundbreaking prototype, the "Mighty Bot," at their
booth at this year’s Expo. This robotically-controlled floor tape applicator leverages the latest in
optical detectors, sensors, electronics, and controls. While the official release date is yet to be
announced, attendees were treated to a sneak peek of this futuristic floor tape application system.
In the meantime, for those seeking practical solutions, Mighty Line offers ergonomic, wheeled
walk-along applicators that make applying floor tape both efficient and affordable.
MAKESafe Tools impressed us with their innovative machinery safety stop systems. These
systems use DC power to instantly halt AC motors, effectively preventing accidents and injuries.
Their demonstration included live examples, such as bench grinders outfitted with their advanced
safety features. The presence-sensing and automatic shutdown controls showcased their
commitment to enhancing safety in high-risk industrial, commercial and governmental
machinery environments.
Newson-Gale, a global leader in electrostatic control technology, presented their latest
advancements in static control testing, monitoring, and validation systems. Their state-of-the-art
equipment ensures reliable static electricity grounding and bonding. Their electronic verification
circuitry is crucial for scenarios such as bulk unloading of flammable liquids (and many others),
where effective grounding and bonding are vital. Their solutions are also able to support, by way
of example, interlocking hazardous area entry doors while verifying the effectiveness of static
dissipative footwear using footwear testers.
Rockford Systems LLC, renowned for their machinery safeguarding systems, showcased their
latest technologies and services. They offered insights into their comprehensive machinery risk and safety assessment services, including lockout/tagout practices. Their on-site gap analyses and training aim to enhance the precision and effectiveness of lockout/tagout systems and protocols, thus reinforcing their position as experts in machinery safeguarding.
Buildings and New Safety Products
The Justrite Safety Group made a significant impact with their renowned safety cabinets and
storage buildings, including their "Justrite" and "Eagle" brand containers. Their Type II metallic
safety containers, featuring metal nozzles with internal flame arresters, are FM approved and
compliant with OSHA and NFPA standards. Their hazardous material storage buildings,
including new models designed for lithium-ion battery storage, are impressive. Additionally,
their Checkers business introduced a new line of high-visibility, lightweight urethane aircraft
wheel chocks.
While not new, DomesandMirrors.com reminded us of the value of classic safety tools. Their
convex industrial mirrors, in different thicknesses, continue to be essential for warehouse safety,
particularly where pedestrian and powered industrial truck traffic intersect. Sometimes,
traditional solutions prove to be the most sensible, timeless, and effective solutions.
