The Reason Why We Have Signs
In the 5S Methodology, which we covered in a previous episode, Step Number Two is Straighten. When you only have 5 Steps (6 when you include Safety), that should tell you that it’s a very important step that shouldn’t be ignored. In our last episode, we spoke about the reasons safety floor markings and signs exist in the workplace. Many times, they exist because the same situation happened enough times that it justified creating permanent guidelines to avoid it going forward. Usually the situation was detrimental to safety, organizations, or productivity.

From outside, visitors and contractors, all the way up to the owners of a facility (and everyone in-between), it’s our responsibility to ourselves and everyone around us to pay attention to and enforce all the rules and regulations of a facility. Assuring there’s a place for everything, and everything is in its place, is one of the best ways to start.
